THE MYTH OF SISYPHUS

SOME YEARS BACK, A WISE OLD SAGE SHARED WITH ME THE WONDERFUL STORY OF SISYPHUS. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, QUICK RUNDOWN: THE GODS HAD CONDEMNED SISYPHUS TO CEASELESSLY ROLLING A ROCK TO THE TOP OF A MOUNTAIN, WENCE THE STONE WOULD ROLL BACK DOWN ON IT'S OWN WEIGHT. THE GODS HAD THOUGHT WITH SOME REASON THAT THERE IN NO MORE DREADFUL PUNISHMENT THAN FUTILE AND HOPELESS LABOR. I KNOW AT THE TIME, I JUST SAW THE MYTH AS A LESSON OF PERSISTENCE, BUT OVER TIME I REALIZED IT WAS BIGGER THAN THAT. THE ROCK IS A SYMBOL OF LIFE AND ULTIMATELY WE HAVE THE CHOICE TO EITHER SUFFER OR ENJOY THAT ETERNAL HILL. BASICALLY, SISYPHUS SAID TO HIMSELF, "OK, THIS IS MY FATE..I AM SUPPOSED TO DWELL IN MISERY, BUT THAT'S JUST NOT HOW I ROLL" (PUN TOTALLY INTENDED)!! SISYPHUS WAS HAPPY!!
